I find it interesting the stark difference between the average incomes in these households. I am also curious as to how they measure inter-racial households. Nonetheless, it is appalling to see such a difference between the two. As we know lack of wealth for minorities is part of a system historical issue that continues to affect those who are a part of difference. It is interesting to notice that these are median net worth, which means there are those who fall much higher in wealth and much lower in wealth for both races.
this made me think of the comment that was made today in class about how every other oppressed minority has been compensated and openly apologized to except for the African American community. Not only have we not been accommodated for slavery but even after slavery we still remain slaves to the past wrongs that were committed to our ancestors. We've been purposely shut out and when the same has been done to fairer skinned minorities they seem to get retribution. The chart only shows how blacks are still being oppressed even after decades of so called freedom.
erally, this graph only represents household wealth declines between white and black families. These are not the only two groups of people that inhabit the US. This country is a melting pot of cultures and everyone is affected differently. Yes, Black families are vastly disadvantaged compared to white families, but what about latino families or white families that live in poverty? I feel much of this information is biased, disregarding everyone else unless you’re white or black.
Now that we know this information what is America doing to help the African American families in need?
