Economist: Squeezing the Rich

  1. I think the most interesting part of this article is the argument the author makes that tax policies are only used by politicians as a way to win votes, where Sarkozy lowered them, Hollande is raising them. The economy of the country doesn't seem to be the primary concern. I definitely see some truth in this. Especially before elections when politicians try to convey that they have ideological convictions, one current example of this is Hillary Clintons presidential campaign where she talks about making Wall-street more responsible and standing up for the middle class, just like Obama did in 2008 and just like him, I suspect she will be very quiet about these matters if and when she becomes president. Nonetheless, if raising the taxes for the absolute rich helps the economy in any way, or increases the quality of life for the majority of people somehow, then I think it can be justified. But the risk remains that companies move their production abroad and everyone loses. However, these and similar questions should be taken into account when talking about taxes, not the number of vote. But that's politics. - Visar Berisha

  2. I do not know a lot about the government that France has other then that the tax is high but from what I understand middle class people do not seem to be worried by it. I maybe wrong but that is the only understanding that I have about France so I do not think that I have enough knowledge of France to make any claims supporting or disagreeing with the article. I would like to say that that it was an interesting read.
